Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE) on Saturday postponed the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026, scheduled for Sunday, after confidential information pointed to a suspected paper leak in Bhiwandi, Thane district. The exam was to be held at 1,028 centres across the state, and the postponement leaves more than 4.28 lakh candidates awaiting a new date.
“This decision has been taken to make the examination transparent,” the MSCE said in an official statement issued Saturday afternoon. The Council added that it had already strengthened security measures in light of the irregularities reported during this year’s NEET-UG re-examination, which concluded across the country on June 21, just six days before the alleged TET leak surfaced.
According to the government’s statement, confidential information received early Saturday indicated that certain individuals in Bhiwandi were in possession of material related to the TET question paper. Bhiwandi police conducted a raid and seized documents, after which MSCE officials were called to the location to verify them. “During the investigation, it was observed that some of the questions found with the relevant persons and the questions in the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) June 2026 question paper were the same,” the statement said. A case has been registered at Bhiwandi Police Station, and an investigation is under way.

The Congress reacted sharply to the development, with the party’s official handle accusing the BJP-led state government of becoming a “Paper Leak Government” and pointing to a pattern of repeated examination leaks. The MSCE said the new date for the TET examination, along with further updates, will be published on its official website.
