Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A video shared by a Maharashtra mother about love, relationships and valuing people has taken on a tragic significance after she, her husband and their 18 year old son died in a hilltop incident just a day later.
Sangita Chandgude had posted the video on Thursday, a day before the tragedy at Kohdya Dongar in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. In the video, she spoke about relationships and said people should value those who genuinely care for them. She also stressed that love and effort in a relationship should come from both sides.
Her words have now attracted attention because of what happened the following day.
On Friday, Sangita, her husband Murlidhar Chandgude, 48, and their son Kunal died after falling from the hill. Police said the incident happened after an argument involving Kunal and his parents over the instalments for an iPhone.
According to the police, Kunal had bought the phone on EMI and was reportedly asking his father for money to make the payment. Murlidhar, who worked as a driver and was the family’s main earning member, was reportedly unable to arrange the money. An argument followed, after which Kunal went to the hill around 10 am.
Concerned about their son, his parents followed him. Police, villagers and fire brigade personnel also reached the spot and spent hours trying to persuade him to move away from the edge.
The rescue effort continued for nearly three hours. Those at the spot reportedly tried different ways to convince Kunal to come back safely. However, he remained close to the edge, making it difficult for rescuers to reach him.
Around 1 pm, Murlidhar approached his son. Police said Kunal moved towards the edge and fell. His father tried to save him, but both fell down the steep slope.
Sangita, who was watching the incident, also went over the edge shortly afterwards, according to the police. All three died.
The tragedy has left the family’s relatives and local residents shocked. Videos of Kunal with his mother have also surfaced online, showing their close relationship and adding to the emotional response surrounding the incident.
Police have recovered the bodies and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Officials have so far cited the dispute over the phone instalment as the immediate trigger, but there is no evidence that Sangita’s earlier video was connected to what happened at the hill.
