Bengaluru: A formal party gathering in Karnataka took a chaotic turn when Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge publicly reprimanded a section of the crowd. The incident unfolded as eager party workers repeatedly disrupted proceedings by chanting supportive slogans for Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. Visibly annoyed by the constant interruptions, Kharge did not hold back, sharply ordering the disruptive attendees to stay quiet and labeling them “useless fellows.”
Firm Stand Against Individual Personality Cults
Addressing the unruly faction from the podium, the veteran politician emphasized that the gathering was an official organizational forum rather than an event dedicated to promoting any single political figure. Kharge criticized the personality-centric behavior, reminding the audience that the Congress party operates as a collective institution rather than around specific individuals.
“Is the whole country going to hear you if you come here and create a ruckus? This is a party event, not an individual’s program. You useless fellows, there is no place for individual worship here; we are all gathered together for the sake of the organization,” Kharge stated to the crowd.
Call for Strict Party Discipline
Drawing on his extensive 58 years of political experience, the Congress chief noted that numerous leaders have heavily benefited from the party’s institutional backing over the decades, even when their individual contributions remained limited. He questioned the purpose of the disruption, asking what the rest of the attendees were supposed to do if people kept shouting over the speakers.
As captured in video footage broadcast by NDTV, D.K. Shivakumar who was present on the stage stood up in an attempt to pacify his vocal supporters and restore order. Meanwhile, Kharge issued a stern warning to the audience, stating that video recordings of the program would be meticulously reviewed by the leadership, and those found responsible for the disruption would face disciplinary action.
