US Federal Judge Restricts ICE Tactics In Minnesota, Blocks Arrests And Pepper-Spray Use Against Protestors

A federal judge in the United States issued an order on Friday (Jan 16) imposing restrictions on immigration enforcement tactics across Minnesota, prohibiting agents from detaining or arresting peaceful protesters and motorists, as well as from deploying pepper-spray against demonstrators. The judicial intervention follows heightened tensions throughout the state after an immigration agent fatally shot 37-year-old protester Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. The Trump administration has defended the shooting, characterizing it as a response to “an act of domestic terrorism”.

According to the 83-page order, US District Judge Katherine Menendez mandated that the Department of Homeland Security’s ongoing operation must achieve compliance within 72 hours.
