Three individuals with a suspected improvised explosive device (IED), explosive materials, and a pistol were detained by police on Sunday close to the interstate bus terminal in Chandigarh’s Sector 43. These individuals are thought to have ties to the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
People with knowledge of the situation claim that the material was discovered hidden inside a tiffin box bag along with a gun, according to the police.
The men arrested on Sunday have been identified as Lovepreet Singh, 19, of Tarn Taran’s Sarhali village, Jashanpreet Singh, 21, of Tarn Taran’s Deobath village, and Prabhpreet Singh alias Prabh, 19, of Amritsar’s Tarsikka village, police said.
In addition to a weapon, magazine, and five live rounds, the seizures included five kilograms of gelatin stick explosives, a detonator, a power supply, and a remotely operated system, all of which are used in the preparation of explosive devices, according to authorities.
After the recovery, a FIR was filed at the Sector 36 police station in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Arms Act and the Explosives Act.
“In Chandigarh, the police found suspicious objects behind the Sector-43 bus stop.” Three people have been detained by Chandigarh Police in relation to the case, according to a statement from the UT police.
According to preliminary inquiry, the accused reportedly made contact with Satnam, also known as Satta Naushera, a foreign-based handler connected to BKI. They allegedly planned to plant an IED in Chandigarh with the goal of causing panic and were acting on his orders.
To find out how the explosives were obtained, where they were being transported, and whether more persons were involved, investigators are questioning the accused.
