Surat Rain News: Relentless heavy rainfall, which began on Monday, continued to batter Surat on Tuesday, bringing the city to a virtual standstill. Around 10 inches of rain were recorded over the past eight hours, severely disrupting normal life and causing widespread flooding across several parts of the city.
Public transport services, including city buses, BRTS and State Transport (ST) buses, were suspended as waterlogging crippled major roads. The worst-affected areas include Sarthana and Jakat Naka, where waist-deep water inundated roads, creating flood-like conditions. Residents reported that as far as the eye could see, roads had turned into streams of water.
Low-lying localities such as Lal Darwaja and Patel Wadi were also completely submerged, while knee-deep water on key roads brought daily life to a halt. The local administration has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors unless absolutely necessary.
Flood-Like Situation in Pandesara
Heavy rain also triggered flood-like conditions in Pandesara, where Shivam Nagar, Krishnanagar and Prem Nagarwitnessed knee-deep waterlogging, leaving residents stranded.
Fire and emergency response teams were rushed to the affected areas and launched rescue operations to evacuate people trapped by rising floodwaters. As part of the relief efforts, affected residents have been shifted to the nearby Odisha Primary School, where temporary shelter, food and other essential facilities are being provided.
21 People Rescued by Boat
Severe waterlogging was also reported near Sarvodaya Bank and the Railway Station underpass, where waist-deep water disrupted vehicular movement and created flood-like conditions.
Following the worsening situation, teams from the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC), the Fire Department and the Disaster Management Authority launched large-scale rescue operations.
Fire brigade personnel deployed boats to evacuate stranded residents, successfully rescuing 21 people and shifting them to safer locations.
