Mumbai Weather: IMD Forecasts Thunderstorms and Rain Across

Mumbai, March 27, 2026: After days of oppressive heat that has left residents in several districts sweating, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated a shift in weather patterns, with the possibility of renewed rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms in the coming days.

The IMD has already issued a yellow alert for hot and humid conditions in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts over the past few days. Daytime temperatures have hovered around uncomfortable levels, adding to public discomfort. However, forecasts suggest this spell may ease as unstable atmospheric conditions develop.

According to the latest update, cloud cover is likely to build in the afternoon hours from March 30 onwards in parts of Khandesh, Marathwada, western Vidarbha, and central Maharashtra. This could trigger thunderstorms, moderate rainfall, gusty winds, lightning, and the chance of hail in isolated areas. Similar changes may extend to remaining parts of Vidarbha. The unsettled weather is expected to persist into March 31 in some regions.

The development comes after recent high temperatures across the state. On Wednesday and Thursday, the mercury crossed 39°C in several places. Parbhani district recorded the highest at 39.2°C, followed by Solapur at 39°C and Jalgaon at 38.5°C. Some areas in Marathwada also saw temperatures touching 37°C.

In Mumbai, maximum temperatures are predicted to remain near 36°C on Friday, with a minimum around 23°C. Skies are expected to stay mostly clear, maintaining the hot and humid feel, while the yellow alert for heat continues in Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad.

The Agriculture Department has urged farmers to closely monitor weather updates in the coming days and plan agricultural activities accordingly. With rabi crop harvesting underway, officials advise storing harvested produce in safe, covered places to protect it from possible rain, strong winds, or hail. Precautions are necessary to minimize damage to standing crops. While the rain may bring some cooling, it could pose risks to the ongoing harvest.

This weather update is based on inputs from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), as reported by Maharashtra Times’ special correspondent in Mumbai. Residents and farmers are advised to stay tuned to official forecasts for any further developments.
