Mumbai: Mumbai Police has launched a city-wide security operation ahead of Bakri Eid, deploying personnel across communally sensitive areas through route marches, flag marches, and preventive patrolling.
Teams from the Mumbai Police, Rapid Action Force, Riot Control Police, and Quick Response Teams have been positioned in Mankhurd, Govandi, Kurla, Dongri, Nagpada, Dharavi, Malvani, Behrampada, and parts of South Mumbai.
Senior officials monitoring ground situation
Local police stations have been placed on maximum alert until the festival concludes, with senior officers personally overseeing security arrangements. Mira Road and the Mira-Bhayandar belt have seen significant additional deployment, particularly around residential housing societies.
The heightened focus on these areas follows disputes in previous years over the entry of sacrificial animals and the conduct of rituals inside residential premises incidents that required police intervention. Authorities say special attention is now being given to these locations to prevent any recurrence. Meetings have been held with local community leaders, mosque committees, and housing society representatives as part of confidence-building measures.
Surveillance, nakabandi, drone monitoring
Beyond route marches, Mumbai Police has stepped up nakabandi operations and vehicle checks across the city. Additional personnel have been posted near mosques, animal markets, transport hubs, and crowded public spaces where large Eid prayer gatherings are expected. Drone monitoring and CCTV surveillance are being used in select areas, and night patrolling has been increased across both the city and its suburbs.
Advisory on animal transport
Police have issued advisories on the legal transport and sale of animals ahead of the festival and warned that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to spread rumours or disturb communal peace.
