Pune : A celebration ahead of a birthday turned tragic when a 26-year-old Pune man lost his life after falling from Lohagad Fort, just months before he was due to get married.
Ketan Vishal Agarwal, who lived in Gahunje and was involved in his family’s real estate business, had visited the historic fort in Maval tehsil on Thursday with his fiancee and two friends. The group had planned the outing to celebrate his fiancee’s upcoming birthday.
Police said the incident occurred around 10.30 am while Agarwal was taking photographs near a cliff. He reportedly slipped amid strong winds and fell nearly 400 feet into a gorge below.
The fall proved fatal, leaving his fiancee and friends traumatised as they witnessed the accident. The tragedy has cast a shadow over both families, who were preparing for Agarwal’s wedding scheduled for November. Wedding arrangements were already in full swing, including the booking of a palace in Udaipur for the ceremony.
After the accident, police, along with members of the Shivdurg Mitra Emergency Rescue Team, launched a rescue operation. Navigating steep slopes and thick vegetation, rescuers spent nearly three hours recovering his body from the valley.
The body was later sent for post-mortem examination. Police have registered an accidental death case and are continuing their investigation.
