Mumbai commuters encountered significant service interruptions on Sunday, July 12, 2026, as both Central Railway and Western Railway carried out essential track maintenance through mega and jumbo blocks. These periodic blocks allow for upkeep of infrastructure, ensuring long-term safety and reliability of suburban rail services.
Central Railway implemented its Mega Block primarily on the Central and Harbour lines, while Western Railway reported no Jumbo Block on its suburban network, allowing regular operations to continue uninterrupted.
On the Central Line, services between CSMT and Vidyavihar ran on a restricted schedule from 10:55 AM to 3:55 PM on both up and down slow lines.
The Harbour Line saw blocks between CSMT and Chunnabhatti/Bandra from 11:10 AM to 4:40 PM in both directions. Specifically, up services were affected from 11:10 AM to 4:10 PM, and down services from 11:40 AM to 4:40 PM.
No Mega Block details were announced for the Trans-Harbour Line or the Uran Line on that day.
Western Railway confirmed that suburban local train services on its network operated according to the regular timetable without any Jumbo Block disruptions.
Railway authorities conduct these maintenance blocks on most Sundays to address track and related infrastructure needs. Passengers are encouraged to plan journeys accordingly and allow extra time for travel during such periods.
The blocks reflect ongoing efforts to maintain the extensive Mumbai suburban rail system, which serves millions daily. Commuters relying on affected routes may have needed to use alternative transport options such as buses, taxis, or other lines during the specified windows.
This maintenance schedule forms part of routine operations to support safe and efficient train movement across the city’s vital rail corridors.
