Mumbai Megablock : Major Disruptions On Both CR & WR

Mumbai commuters face significant disruptions to local train services on Sunday, May 17, 2026, as both Central Railway and Western Railway carry out essential maintenance work under their respective Mega Block and Jumbo Block programmes. These periodic blocks allow for track, signalling, and infrastructure upkeep to ensure long-term safety and reliability of the suburban network.

Central Railway Mega Blocks

On the Central Line, a Mega Block will be in effect between Thane and Kalyan from 10:40 AM to 3:40 PM on the Up and Down fast lines. Fast and semi-fast local trains running from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) towards Kalyan/Thane will be diverted onto slow lines in this section. Some services may halt at additional stations including Mulund, Bhandup, Nahur, Diva, and Mumbra. Delays of around 10 minutes are anticipated. Certain Mail and Express trains will also be diverted onto the 5th and 6th lines between Thane and Kalyan.

On the Harbour Line, services between Vashi and Panvel will be impacted from 11:05 AM to 4:05 PM in both directions. Up Harbour trains from Panvel to CSMT will be cancelled between 10:33 AM and 3:49 PM, while Down Harbour trains from CSMT to Belapur/Panvel will remain cancelled from 9:45 AM to 3:12 PM. Special local trains will operate between CSMT and Vashi during this period, and Trans-Harbour services between Thane–Vashi/Nerul will continue. Port line services are expected to run normally.

Trans-Harbour Line services between Thane and Panvel will also face a block from 10:01 AM to 3:53 PM. Up trains from Panvel to Thane will be cancelled from 11:02 AM to 3:53 PM, and Down trains from Thane to Panvel from 10:01 AM to 3:20 PM. No Mega Block details have been announced yet for the Uran Line.

Western Railway Updates

Western Railway has confirmed no daytime Jumbo Block on Sunday, May 17. However, major blocks were carried out during the intervening nights of May 15/16 and 16/17 for commissioning of Electronic Interlocking at Dadar station and launching of Foot Over Bridge girders at Naigaon station.

During these works, Fast line trains operated on Slow lines between Mumbai Central and Santacruz, while Down Slow line trains ran on Down Fast lines between Bhayandar and Vasai Road. Several suburban services were cancelled, with detailed information available at station masters. Multiple Mail/Express trains, including the Saurashtra Express and others, faced short terminations at Borivali, origin changes, or delays ranging from 30 minutes to over two hours.

Railway authorities have urged passengers to plan their journeys accordingly and cooperate during the maintenance period, which is vital for the upkeep of critical infrastructure. Commuters are advised to check real-time updates through official railway sources before travelling.
