Cricketers Given Freedom to Choose Their Own Hotel
Tokyo: With the 17th Asian Games set to begin in Japan on September 19, hotel accommodation has been arranged for cricket teams as well as athletes from other sports. However, managements of some major cricketing nations raised concerns over the designated hotels.
Following the concerns, Naoki Miyaji, CEO of the Japan Cricket Association, told PTI that teams would be free to make their own arrangements at another hotel if they were not satisfied with the accommodation being offered by the organisers.
Interestingly, athletes and players from some sports have been provided accommodation in hotels built on cruise ships as well as in container hotels. Such containers are generally made from recycled steel and other materials, while the hotels inside them offer facilities comparable to those found in three-star or even five-star hotels.
The cricket-playing nations participating in the Asian Games had recently also raised concerns that the accommodation arranged for players is located around 20 kilometres from the venue of the cricket tournament.
The cricketing nations have also complained that the dressing rooms built by Japan are too cramped. However, the organisers have said that, apart from the temporary dressing rooms inside the stadium, there are also some permanent dressing rooms around the ground that the cricketers will be able to use.
