The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) announced the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination results for the February-March 2026 session on Friday, recording a robust overall pass percentage of 92.09 per cent.
More than 16 lakh students appeared for the Class 10 exams, with 14,20,486 successfully clearing them. While the statewide performance reflects solid results, the data has highlighted a notable challenge in Marathi, a compulsory subject for most candidates in the state. A total of 94,544 students failed in Marathi across its different language categories.
Performance in Marathi
For Marathi as a first language, 10,98,623 students registered and 10,87,699 appeared. Of these, 10,06,896 passed, while 80,803 failed, yielding a pass percentage of 92.57 per cent.
In the second or third language category, 4,15,473 students registered and 4,13,917 appeared. As many as 4,00,176 cleared the exam, leaving 13,741 unsuccessful, for a pass rate of 96.68 per cent.
Combining both categories, 15,01,616 students appeared for Marathi, 14,07,072 passed, and 94,544 failed.

Comparison with Other Languages
Among first-language subjects, Marathi saw the highest number of failures, which is partly attributable to it having the largest number of candidates. Other languages showed the following results:
English: 3,65,203 appeared, 7,756 failed (97.88% pass)
Urdu: 92,442 appeared, 4,186 failed (95.47% pass)
Hindi: 36,176 appeared, 3,729 failed (89.69% pass)
Kannada: 2,613 appeared, 213 failed (91.85% pass)
Gujarati: 1,190 appeared, 69 failed (94.20% pass)
Tamil: 214 appeared, 7 failed (96.73% pass)
Telugu: 120 appeared, 0 failed (100% pass)
The detailed subject-wise data underscores Marathi’s unique position due to its high volume of examinees while maintaining a competitive pass rate relative to the overall board performance.
