
According to party sources, Uma Shankar Singh, the only MLA for the Bahujan Samaj Party, passed away on Wednesday night. He was fifty-five. Party leaders informed news agency PTI that Singh, the MLA for Rasra in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, was receiving treatment for a brain tumor.
Mayawati, the head of the BSP, expressed her sorrow over Singh’s departure, calling it “deeply saddening” and offering her condolences to his family and followers. Mayawati characterized Singh as a devoted, truthful, and totally loyal party leader in a post on X.
“His commitment to the party is beyond praise.” She posted on the social media site, “His entire family is like the BSP family, and all members of his family treat me with full respect and honor as they would an elder sister.” The BSP president went on to say that she communicated with Singh’s son while he was receiving treatment and learned of his passing through him.
“I learned of Singh’s demise this evening from him. I stand with him and his family during this time of sadness, as does the entire party. Instead of losing their bravery, they should look ahead. “May nature give them all the strength to endure this grief,” she wrote.
Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, also expressed sympathy on the MLA’s passing, describing it as “extremely heartbreaking”.
“It is very tragic that MLA Uma Shankar Singh Ji of the Ballia district’s Rasda Assembly Constituency passed away. Adityanath posted on X, “Humble tribute.”
“I ask Lord Shri Ram to provide the departed soul a position at His divine feet and to give the grieving family members the fortitude to endure this great grief. “Om Shanti,” he wrote in his post.
Uma Shankar Singh, a member of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), won the Rasra seat in Ballia. The lawmaker became the only BSP representative in the 403-seat legislature after this victory.
Singh became a well-known regional political personality and was elected to the assembly three times in a row, first in 2012 under the BSP banner and again in 2017 and 2022. He was well-known for his strong grassroots presence and community involvement.
