Atiq Ahmed’s Youngest Son Aban Killed in Road Accident While Travelling to Meet Jailed Brother
Aban Ahmed, the youngest son of slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, has died in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi. He was 21.
The crash happened as Aban and a friend, identified as Sonu, were travelling from Prayagraj to Jhansi to visit Aban’s brother Ali Ahmed, who is lodged in Jhansi jail. Police say the car — reportedly a white Hyundai Creta — was speeding when the driver lost control and slammed into a road divider. The impact was severe enough that Aban and Sonu died at the scene. Other occupants in the vehicle were seriously injured and rushed to hospital for treatment.

Police have launched an investigation into what caused the crash, with early indications pointing to overspeeding.
A Family Marked by Violence
Aban’s death adds another grim chapter to a family that has been under the spotlight since 2023. After lawyer Umesh Pal a key witness in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal was shot dead in Prayagraj that February, Aban and his brother Ahzam were placed in a juvenile home since both were minors at the time. Ahzam turned 18 in October 2023, and shortly after, both brothers were released from the juvenile home and handed over to their aunt.
The rest of the family’s story reads like a chronicle of one violent event after another. Atiq’s third son, Asad, was killed in a police encounter in Jhansi in April 2023 while wanted in the Umesh Pal case. Just two days later, Atiq himself and his brother Ashraf were shot dead by unidentified assailants while being escorted to a hospital in Prayagraj a shooting caught live on camera by journalists who were following them. Atiq’s other sons, Ali and Umar, remain in jail on separate criminal cases, and his wife, Shaista Parveen, is still absconding in connection with the Umesh Pal murder conspiracy.
