Nearly two months after being allegedly attacked and set on fire, Punjabi social media personality Manjit Kaur passed away in a government hospital in Chandigarh.
According to authorities on Saturday, August 29, 2026, Kaur, 28, passed away on while receiving treatment at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).
Kaur’s mother filed a complaint alleging that on July 3, Shubhi and Pinda, two of her acquaintances, abducted her after calling her close to a booze store in Sector 34.
According to the lawsuit, she was allegedly brought to Morinda in Punjab, where she was beaten, chained to a tree, and burned.
After arriving at the scene and putting out the fire with a blanket, Kaur’s companion hurried her to a hospital in Morinda. She was thereafter transported to PGIMER, Chandigarh, and a private hospital in Mohali. On August 5, the victim’s mother claimed that her daughter had recovered consciousness, but police did not show up even though she had informed the Kharar police in Mohali to record her statement. Police, however, denied the accusations and claimed to have worked closely with the family.
According to authorities, a case under sections 103 (1) (murder) and 140 (1) (kidnapping), among others, has been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Gurjeet Kaur, Deputy Superintendent of Police (South) in Chandigarh, stated that the inquiry was in progress and that efforts were being made to identify the attackers.
In addition to attempting to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged kidnapping, police are looking through CCTV footage and other evidence to identify the perpetrators of this act.
The reason for the murder has not yet been determined.
Kaur used to share videos of Punjabi and Haryanvi music on Instagram, where she had about 1.46 lakh followers.
