Ahmedabad: Gujarat is currently facing three weather systems at once: a trough, a western disturbance, and a well-marked low-pressure area. Together they’ve pushed the India Meteorological Department to issue a high alert for heavy to extremely heavy rain over the coming days. The monsoon trough is running through the state right now, and the IMD expects the next 24 hours to be the most critical stretch, with South Gujarat and parts of Saurashtra likely to see the worst of it.
Eight districts are now under a Red Alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall: Surat, Bhavnagar, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Dang, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Fishermen have been told to stay off the sea given the rough conditions and strong winds, and Signal No. 3 has gone up at ports along the Gujarat coast as a precaution.
Six more districts are on Orange and Yellow Alert because extremely heavy rain is still possible there: Amreli, Gir Somnath, Bharuch, Narmada, Kheda, and Aravalli. Heavy rain is also forecast more widely, including in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Junagadh, Botad, Sabarkantha, Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar.
