Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty marked the auspicious occasion of Nag Panchami on August 17, 2026, with a heartfelt visit to the Suvarna Naga Temple in Powai, Mumbai. Accompanied by her mother, Sunanda Shetty, the actress offered prayers to the Naga Daiva, reconnecting with her deep-rooted Mangalorean traditions.
On Instagram, Shilpa shared pictures and videos from the temple, capturing the vibrant festivities, traditional rituals, and the decorated sanctum. The serpent idols, or Naga Daiva, were adorned with white flower garlands, purple blossoms, and fresh green leaves, creating a serene and sacred atmosphere. In one photo, Shilpa appeared graceful in a cream saree with a red border and a gold pendant, while her mother wore an orange-and-red saree paired with a traditional rudraksha mala and red bindi.
Expressing her spiritual connection, Shilpa wrote: “Naga Daiva holds a deeply sacred place in my heart. Being a Bunt from Mangalore, I’ve grown up with a deep reverence for Naga Daiva worship, a tradition that connects me to my roots, ancestors, and a lineage believed to protect our progeny and family. The Shree Suvarna Naga Temple, also known as Icha Puri Mandir, is a 68-year-old shrine founded in 1957. Dedicated primarily to Nag Devi depicted as a golden cobra coiled around a lingam it is revered as a wish-fulfilling temple. Uniquely inclusive, it houses deities inclu ding Lord Shiva, Hanuman, Shani Dev, Sai Baba, Balaji, Lakshmi, Saraswati, and NavDurga under one roof.
Nag Panchami, observed during the Shukla Paksha of the Shravan month, honors serpent deities for protection, prosperity, and family well-being. Shilpa’s visit underscores how celebrities continue to uphold cultural and ancestral practices amid modern life, inspiring fans to cherish their heritage.
