‘Ramayana’ Trailer Release Put On Hold; Makers Delay Global Launch Ahead Of Comic Con Showcase
The global release of the much awaited trailer for Ramayana has been postponed, just hours before it was scheduled to premiere worldwide. Producer Namit Malhotra announced the decision on Friday, confirming that while the film’s presentation at San Diego Comic Con would go ahead as planned, the trailer will now be released globally on a later date that is yet to be announced.
The sudden announcement came as a surprise to fans, who had been eagerly counting down to the trailer’s worldwide launch after weeks of promotions. The makers did not provide a detailed explanation for the postponement but assured audiences that the trailer would be unveiled globally soon.
Despite the delay, Ramayana continued to make its presence felt at San Diego Comic Con, where director Nitesh Tiwari, producer Namit Malhotra, and lead actors Ranbir Kapoor and Yash attended a special panel to introduce the ambitious project to an international audience. The event marks one of the biggest global showcases for an Indian film in recent years.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman. The film is being mounted on a massive scale with visual effects by Oscar winning studio DNEG and an original score composed by A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer. It is also being filmed for IMAX, underscoring the makers ambition to position the epic as a global cinematic event.
Originally, the trailer was expected to debut globally on July 24 after its Comic Con presentation. The postponement has fueled speculation on social media about a revised release strategy, though the production team has not confirmed any alternative rollout plans. Reports have suggested possible distribution developments, but no official announcement has been made regarding the new trailer launch date.
Ramayana is planned as a two part cinematic saga, with the first installment scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release during the Diwali 2026 festive season. The project has generated immense anticipation since its announcement, with fans eagerly awaiting their first full glimpse of one of Indian cinema’s most ambitious adaptations of the timeless epic.
