Ranchi : The student-led agitation over alleged irregularities in Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) recruitment examinations entered its sixth day on Monday, with the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) extending support to the protesters and backing their demand for a CBI probe. “Spoke to the students who are protesting in Jharkhand over irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams. The CJP stands with all the students in Jharkhand and supports their demands,” Dipke wrote in a post on X.
What began as a small protest at Ranchi’s Vapu Batika ground over alleged examination irregularities and paper leaks has now transformed into a statewide movement, drawing hundreds of students as well as support from political parties and civil society organisations. The protest gathered momentum on July 29 when students assembled at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium in Ranchi, waving the national flag and demanding accountability from the Hemant Soren government over the conduct of recruitment examinations.
Like innovator-activist Sonam Wangchuk, who undertook a 26-day hunger strike during the anti-NEET movement, student leader Devendra Nath Mahto has begun an indefinite fast, demanding the cancellation of the 14th JPSC examination over alleged irregularities. As the protest entered its sixth day, slogans against corruption and examination irregularities echoed across Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium, reflecting growing frustration among aspirants.
“The monsoon clouds may hover over Jharkhand’s skies during the rainy season, but the dark clouds of corruption have cast a shadow over the future of the state’s students. Our movement will continue until these clouds are cleared,” the protester said. Several students said they were determined to continue the agitation until the government responded to their demands.
Apart from seeking action over alleged examination irregularities, the students also voiced concerns over unemployment in the state, saying they were demanding transparent recruitment and permanent government jobs rather than alternative livelihood schemes.
