Ahmedabad Among 6 Districts Under Extremely Heavy Rain Alert, 12 Districts on Orange Alert

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Meteorological Department has issued a forecast that has raised concerns for Ahmedabad residents. A red alert for extremely heavy rainfall has been declared for the next three hours — between 10 am and 1 pm — covering Ahmedabad and five other districts.

Where Is the Red Alert in Effect?

A red alert for extremely heavy rainfall has been declared in Ahmedabad, Kheda, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch and Chhota Udepur districts. According to the nowcast forecast, Chhota Udepur has already recorded heavy rainfall since morning. Weather department data shows that several areas in Chhota Udepur received two-and-a-half inches of rain between 4 am and 6 am, followed by another two inches between 6 am and 8 am — taking the total to around four-and-a-half inches.

Where Is the Orange Alert?

Per the weather department’s forecast, an orange alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Bhavnagar, Amreli, Rajkot, Surendranagar, Gandhinagar, Panchmahal, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Valsad and Navsari districts.

Notably, schools and colleges in several districts had already been ordered shut a day earlier in anticipation of the intense rainfall, with Army and NDRF teams placed on standby.
