The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is reported to have approved the full withdrawal of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) from Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), in a significant development pertaining to vital public sector infrastructure.
The withdrawal will impact 1,329 sanctioned posts, including 1,033 employees from the security branch and 298 from the fire wing, according to official statements released by the CISF Directorate General in New Delhi.
The directive, which was implemented after receiving MHA clearance on August 18, 2026, applies Section 14(2) of the CISF Act and establishes a stringent three-month notice period with a final pull-out deadline of November 17, 2026.
The Central instruction directs local unit commandants and the force’s South Sector headquarters in Chennai to make sure that all outstanding payments are collected from the plant management prior to the departure.
In order for the MHA to finalize the permanent termination of the units’ sanctioned posts, the sector Inspector General must provide a formal compliance report and a “No-Dues Certificate” following withdrawal.
A senior RINL official confirmed that although management is aware of the letter being circulated, the hard copy has not yet reached the corporate office, despite the fact that digital copies of the directive have quickly spread throughout media platforms, social media, and employee circles, sparking extensive discussions among trade unions.
The plant’s future security architecture has come under serious scrutiny due to the Central paramilitary force’s imminent departure from the core industrial complex. In recent years, the deployment of the Central force has been gradually reduced.
