Vadgam Records 8.6 Inches Of Rain In Few Hours: Torrential Rain Floods Roads And Homes, Schools Shut Across Banaskantha

Banaskantha: Banaskantha district in Gujarat is grappling with severe flooding after Vadgam was pounded by an extraordinary 8.6 inches of rainfall within just three to four hours. The intense downpour disrupted normal life, forcing the closure of schools and leaving roads waterlogged and homes inundated.
The monsoon, which had earlier lashed Saurashtra and South Gujarat, has now moved northwards. Over the last 24 hours, rainfall was recorded in 162 talukas across Gujarat. Alongside Vadgam, Vijapaur in Mehsana received 6.3 inches of rain, Palanpur received 6.1 inches of rain, while Dantiwada saw 6.0 inches in the last 24 hours.
The sudden deluge caused severe waterlogging in residential areas and marketplaces, particularly in Palanpur’s Doctor House area and Mafatpura, where homes and shops were flooded. Many residents reported extensive damage to household goods as water rushed into their homes. Elderly residents and children were especially affected, with several families forced to vacate their premises or wait out the floods in difficult conditions.
In response to the heavy rains, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Banaskantha and surrounding regions, warning of continued heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. District authorities promptly announced a holiday for all primary schools in Palanpur, Vadgam, Dantiwada, Dhanera, and Deesa as a safety measure.

Looking ahead, the weather department has placed multiple regions under varying alerts:
Red Alert: Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, and Sabarkantha.
Orange Alert: Kutch, Surendranagar, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Ahmedabad, Mahisagar, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara.

On July 4, yellow alerts have been issued for 12 districts, where scattered heavy showers are expected to persist, maintaining the monsoon’s firm grip on Gujarat.
