Kolhapur : Kolhapur witnessed a violent clash late Friday night when two groups from different groups attacked each other in the Siddharthnagar area. The violence broke out during a programme organised to mark 31 years of the Rajebagswar Football Club. Flex banners, posters and sound systems put up for the event angered local residents, who complained of inconvenience.
Both sides hurled stones in large numbers. At least two cars were set on fire, while around eight to nine vehicles, including autos and parked cars, were vandalised. Eyewitnesses at the site said stones had shattered vehicle windows, with debris scattered inside. Parts of the roadside parking area were completely damaged during the chaos. Police rushed to the scene and deployed more than 200 personnel to control the situation. Authorities confirmed that the clash was the result of a misunderstanding between the two groups.
SP Kolhapur urged people to remain calm, saying: “I request all of them not to be affected by the rumours. The situation is good. The incident happened suddenly. And the leaders of the two groups have also requested that no such message should be spread.
