Cricket World Stunned as England-Based Bangladesh-Origin Cricketer Robin Das Faces Two Rape Charges

London: It is no longer unusual to hear about cricketers in England getting involved in pub fights or altercations after consuming alcohol. However, allegations of rape against a British cricketer are certainly shocking. More disturbing is the fact that the player is facing two rape charges and that the case is now set to proceed in court, with a hearing date already scheduled. The allegations have been made against county cricketer Robin Das.
Twenty-four-year-old Robin James Das, who has played for England’s county side Essex, is originally from Bangladesh. His father hails from Sylhet in Bangladesh. Robin Das studied History as his specialised subject in England. In 2023, he was signed by the Dhaka Dominators franchise in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
Robin Das is a domestic cricketer in England. He has been accused of raping a woman in Brixton in 2024. Das was arrested on August 27 last year and was subsequently granted bail. He also played for Essex this season in a One-Day Cup match against Middlesex. According to a report by news agency IANS, the Inner London Crown Court has ordered Robin Das to appear on October 9 in connection with the rape case.

Essex Cricket suspended Das after a criminal charge was registered against him on July 23. The woman who has allegedly been raped by Robin Das is receiving support from specialist officers in connection with the case.
The allegations are yet to be adjudicated in court, and Robin Das remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until proven guilty.
