Mumbai Weather : IMD Issues Rain Alerts for 11 Districts

Mumbai: Maharashtra is experiencing highly variable weather patterns in May, with some regions sweltering under intense heat waves while others brace for heavy showers. On Monday, May 4, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds in 11 districts across the state.

According to the IMD forecast, strong winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph, along with lightning and moderate rainfall, are likely in these areas over the next 24 hours. Seven districts have been placed under a yellow alert, while four others fall under an orange alert, indicating a higher probability of intense weather activity.

In the Amravati division, light to moderate rain with thunder is expected in Amravati, Akola, Buldhana, Washim, and Yavatmal districts. These areas have been recording some of the highest temperatures in the state, often hovering between 41 and 44 degrees Celsius.

The Nagpur division, encompassing Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli districts, is under an orange alert. Residents in these areas can expect more severe thunderstorms, accompanied by strong winds and lightning. Local authorities have urged people to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Meanwhile, coastal and western parts of the state continue to face hot and humid conditions. In the Konkan region, including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg, maximum temperatures are likely to range between 33 and 35 degrees Celsius, with muggy weather persisting.

North Maharashtra districts such as Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule, and Nandurbar are expected to remain dry, with temperatures climbing up to 41 degrees Celsius and peak heat during afternoon hours. In western Maharashtra, including Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur, daytime temperatures are forecast to stay between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius.

The contrasting weather highlights the erratic nature of the pre-monsoon season in Maharashtra this year. While Vidarbha gears up for possible disruptions from rain and storms, other regions battle ongoing heat stress. The IMD has advised residents in alert areas to stay updated on local warnings and avoid venturing out during peak thunderstorm activity.
