Mulund Metro Slab Collapse: One Killed, Five Arrested, ₹6 Crore Fines Imposed

Mumbai– A concrete slab from an under-construction section of Metro Line-4 (Wadala–Thane) collapsed onto LBS Marg in Mulund on Saturday afternoon, killing one person and injuring three.

The victim, Ramdhan Yadav, a Samajwadi Party functionary and village head, was travelling in an auto-rickshaw when the slab fell on it and a car below.

The Maharashtra government responded swiftly. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde ordered the suspension of Executive Engineer Satyajeet Salve and imposed fines totalling ₹6 crore on contractors Milan Road Buildtech and consultant Louis Berger.

Mumbai Police arrested five individuals: Project Director Harish Chauhan, two project managers from Milan Road Buildtech, and two officials from DB Hill LBG Supervisory company.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a thorough probe into the cause and promised strict action against those responsible. Shinde directed an immediate safety and structural audit of the entire Line-4 corridor. The victim’s family will receive ₹15 lakh in compensation.

Opposition leaders criticised the administration sharply. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray accused the BJP government of treating lives as expendable, citing premature pillar painting and poor barricading at project sites. Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad questioned why safety measures existed only on paper and whether precautions were ignored on a busy arterial road.
