Mumbai: The Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has issued a weather alert warning of thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rain across multiple regions of the state from March 30 to April 4, according to a report by Free Press Journal. The advisory highlights the likelihood of lightning strikes and hailstorms, particularly in districts across Khandesh, Marathwada, western Vidarbha, and the ghat areas of central Maharashtra.
As per the forecast cited by Free Press Journal, the state is expected to witness a spell of cloudy weather accompanied by post-noon thunderstorms beginning March 30. While the intensity of rainfall may temporarily reduce on March 31, unstable conditions are likely to persist in several areas. Weather activity is expected to intensify again between April 1 and April 4, raising concerns over potential disruptions.

In response, the CMO has urged farmers to take preventive steps, especially as the harvesting of rabi crops is underway. The Agriculture Department has advised that harvested produce should be stored safely or adequately covered to minimise damage from rain, strong winds, or hailstorms.
Citizens have also been cautioned to remain vigilant during periods of lightning and severe weather. Authorities have specifically advised avoiding open spaces and refraining from standing under trees, near electric poles, transformers, or temporary structures such as tin sheds during thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Mumbai has indicated that the city could experience light rainfall and thundershowers on March 30. However, forecasts for the early days of April remain uncertain.
The alert underscores the need for preparedness as Maharashtra experiences a spell of unseasonal weather, with officials emphasising caution to reduce risks to life and property.
