According to officials, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized and destroyed adulterated dairy goods valued at lakhs of rupees after busting a significant milk adulteration scheme operating out of the Mahape MIDC area in Navi Mumbai.
A special FDA team searched M/s P.K. Dairy on August 19 in response to sensitive intelligence, according to an official statement released by the Thane district administration here on Monday.
Authorities apprehended accused Shivendra Shyamlal Jaiswal during the operation as he was working with dairy owner Pradeep Kamlesh Yadav to dilute milk inside a tanker using a mixture of skimmed milk powder (SMP) and cooled water.
“One kg of skimmed milk powder was mixed with 8 to 10 liters of chilled water using a plunger to adulterate the milk,’ which was then supplied as pure cow or buffalo milk to several dairies across Thane, Airoli, Kopri, Digha, and Ghansoli,” as per the announcement.
The dairy was shut down right away by the authorities for not having a current food safety license. To safeguard the public’s health, officials confiscated and destroyed 4,710 liters of contaminated and questionable milk worth Rs 1,85,780 from many raided enterprises.
FDA officers also seized 88.4 kg of cream, 473 kg of skim milk powder, and 129.5 kg of paneer.
On August 22, a formal complaint was filed at the Turbhe police station against fifteen people and organizations implicated in the scheme, including the proprietors of two dairies and several recipient vendor locations. The procedure to revoke the food licenses of all businesses involved has been started.
