New Delhi: A former Malaysian Airlines air hostess has been arrested along with a 20 year old man after police allegedly found nearly rs 30 lakh worth of mephedrone, commonly known as MD, in their car while they were travelling from Gujarat towards Mumbai.
The accused have been identified as 41 year old Mansi Sayed and 20 year old Sohail Suleman Shaikh, both from Mumbai’s Santacruz area. According to police, the duo had travelled to Vadodara to collect a drug consignment and were allegedly taking it back to Mumbai when their vehicle was intercepted.
Police reportedly recovered 977 grams of mephedrone, valued at around rs 29 to 30 lakh, from the car. Several mobile phones, plastic bags and containers were also found during the operation.
Investigators said Sayed and Shaikh had rented the car in Mumbai before travelling to Vadodara. The two allegedly collected the drugs from an unidentified woman near Vadodara railway station. Police are now trying to trace the woman and find out who else may be connected to the supply chain.
According to the investigation, the consignment was allegedly meant to be brought to Mumbai and divided into smaller packets of around 5 to 10 grams before being supplied to customers.
The case has also brought Sayed’s alleged past involvement in drug related cases back into focus. Police said she had been involved with drug networks since 2015 and was arrested in Indore in 2021 after around 100 grams of drugs were allegedly recovered from her. She reportedly spent nearly four years dealing with that case.
Sayed had previously worked as cabin crew with Malaysian Airlines and had travelled to several countries during her time with the airline. Investigators are now looking into whether her previous contacts or alleged links have any connection with the latest case.
Police are continuing to investigate where the drugs came from, who was supposed to receive them in Mumbai and whether more people were involved in the operation.
The arrests and seizure are part of an ongoing investigation, and the allegations against the accused have not yet been established in court. Police are also searching for the alleged supplier who reportedly handed over the consignment in Vadodara.
