A Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) bus driver was allegedly assaulted by a car driver near Dadar’s Tilak Bridge in Mumbai on Sunday evening. The confrontation stemmed from an argument over giving way on the road.
The incident occurred around 7:30 pm on September 6. A Wet Lease bus numbered 8215 (registration MH-01-EM-9332), operating on Route C-40/33, was travelling from Sewri Bus Station towards Dindoshi. The bus was being operated from Wadala Depot at the time.
According to reports received by BEST authorities, the car driver was travelling behind the bus and became agitated when the bus driver did not yield. The car driver then overtook the bus, stopped his vehicle in front of it near Tilak Bridge, and allegedly confronted and physically assaulted the bus driver.
A video circulating online purportedly shows a man entering the packed bus and slapping the driver from behind while he remained seated at the wheel. Passengers were present inside the vehicle during the episode.
Following the assault, the BEST bus driver approached Shivaji Park Police Station in Dadar to report the matter. Police have asked the driver to appear at the station again at 10 am on Monday for further investigation and action.
The episode highlights ongoing concerns over road rage incidents on Mumbai’s busy roads, particularly involving public transport vehicles.
