Navi Mumbai Police ASI Found Dead; Note and Video Allege Harassment by Senior Officials

An Assistant Sub-Inspector attached to the Navi Mumbai Police Special Branch was found dead at a lodge in Rabale on the evening of September 5. Police identified the officer as Pandurang Nimba Patil.

According to reports, Patil left behind a written note and a video posted on social media. In these, he accused a Deputy Commissioner of Police, the Wireless Assistant Commissioner of Police, and a head clerk of harassment that caused him mental distress. The video included an appeal to Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe seeking justice in connection with the alleged harassment. The note further stated that certain officials and colleagues had driven him to take the extreme step through their actions.

Senior Police Inspector Devidas Kathale confirmed that police are investigating the claims made in the note and video. A forensic examination is also under way to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the allegations raised.
