London: Novak Djokovic’s quest for a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title ended in disappointment once again on Friday as the Serbian legend was beaten by world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semi-finals. The Italian advanced to the Wimbledon final for the second consecutive year and became the first player from Italy to reach the men’s singles final at the Championships more than once.
The 24-year-old Sinner, the 2025 Wimbledon champion, defeated the 39-year-old Djokovic in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. He will now face Germany’s 29-year-old Alexander Zverev in Sunday’s final. Zverev booked his place in the title clash by defeating Britain’s Arthur Fery, who had entered the tournament as a wild card, 7-6 (7-0), 6-2, 6-4.
The defeat also denied Djokovic the opportunity to equal Roger Federer’s record of eight Wimbledon men’s singles titles.
Sinner Holds the Edge Over Zverev
Friday’s semi-final was Sinner’s 99th Grand Slam match. Sunday’s final will mark the milestone 100th Grand Slam match of his career.
Sinner also enjoys an impressive head-to-head record against Zverev, having won 10 of their 14 previous meetings.
All-Czech Women’s Final on Saturday
The Wimbledon women’s singles final will feature an all-Czech Republic showdown between Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova.
It will be the first time in history that two Czech players have faced each other in a Wimbledon women’s singles final. Czech tennis has previously produced legendary champions such as Martina Navratilova, Hana Mandlikova, Jana Novotna, Petra Kvitova, Marketa Vondrousova and Barbora Krejcikova.
