Indian Diplomat Interrupts Dhaka Seminar Over Incorrect Jammu And Kashmir Map

Dhaka : India objected to the depiction of an incorrect map of the country during a seminar at the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) in Dhaka, reiterating that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of India. Jha acknowledged the clarification but reiterated India’s official position. “I understand, sir, but Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and it is misrepresented here.

Karim then asked whether she was from India, following which Jha identified herself as an officer from the Indian High Commission. “Point noted,” Karim replied before continuing his presentation. According to the Indian side, the objection was raised to reaffirm India’s position that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral and inalienable part of the country.

Karim subsequently acknowledged the concern and said the point had been noted. Bangladesh’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shama Obaed, attended the event as the chief guest. She also said Bangladesh was considering a series of confidence-building measures in consultation with SAARC member states. These could include meetings with SAARC ambassadors and high commissioners in Dhaka, consultations with the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu, a possible meeting of senior officials and a special session of the SAARC Council of Ministers.

A video of the exchange between Jha and Karim has gone viral on social media, with many Indian users praising the diplomat for promptly objecting to the map and reaffirming India’s longstanding position on Jammu and Kashmir.
