London: The historic Lord’s Cricket Ground is hosting its first-ever women’s Test match in its 149-year history, and India’s vice-captain Smriti Mandhana has etched her name into the record books with a remarkable achievement.
On the opening day of the inaugural women’s Test against England at Lord’s, India reached 122 for 3 in 25 overs in their first innings. Opening batter Smriti Mandhana led the charge with a superb 56.
With her innings, Mandhana became the first woman cricketer to score a Test half-century at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, widely regarded as the ‘Home of Cricket’.
A Historic Record at the Home of Cricket
The first men’s Test at Lord’s was played in 1884. In that match, Australia’s George Giffen became the first batter to score a Test fifty at the venue, making 63 runs against England.
More than 140 years later, Smriti Mandhana has now become the first woman to achieve the same milestone in a Test match at the historic ground.
