“Will Avenge His Death”: Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei On His Father’s Funeral

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, stated on Saturday that the Islamic Republic’s citizens “demand” retribution for the murder of his father and predecessor, Ali Khamenei. He promised to “avenge the blood” of Khamenei and the “martyrs” slain in the conflict in a written statement posted on social media.

“In the statement, Khamenei declared, “We promise to exact revenge on the criminal and disgraced killers for the blood of the martyred leader and all the martyrs of these two wars.” Iran must “inevitably be carried out” its retaliation, he declared. He claimed that neither his own presence nor the existence of other authorities is relevant to the issue.

He went on to thank Iranians and Iraqis for their “enemy-shattering” turnout.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible, enemy-shattering, and historic turnout of tens of millions of people across Iran and Iraq, particularly in Tehran, Qom, Najaf, Karbala, and Mashhad,” he said.

The declaration was made in conjunction with Ali Khamenei’s burial rites, which took place months after the US-Israeli assaults on his Tehran office on February 28 killed him.

Thousands of followers flocked to the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza in Mashhad late on Thursday night to bid Ayatollah Ali Khamenei goodbye for the last time.
