Trump’s Lighthearted “I’m the Boss” Moment Steals Spotlight at G7 Summit

US President Donald Trump injected a moment of levity into the concluding sessions of the G7 summit on Wednesday, arriving late to a morning meeting in the French resort town of Evian-les-Bains and declaring to fellow leaders, “I’m the boss.” The remark, delivered with characteristic flair as he entered the room where others were already seated, elicited laughter from the gathered heads of state.

Hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, the summit saw Trump engage warmly upon arrival. Macron greeted him with a casual “How are you?” to which Trump responded positively before taking his place. Photographers were briefly allowed into the session, prompting another quip from Trump: “Would you like to stay for the meeting? It’s ok with me.” They were soon escorted out.

Trump’s participation marked a notable contrast to the previous G7 gathering in Canada, where he departed early. This time, he remained for the full duration of the three-day event and endorsed the final joint communique. Macron further extended an invitation for Trump to join a private dinner at the Palace of Versailles following the summit, describing it as a non-formal affair.

The gathering produced important diplomatic outcomes, particularly around global security. Leaders expressed strong backing for a preliminary peace agreement Trump had recently secured with Iran. The deal aims to restore stability to the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, which had faced prolonged disruptions. It follows earlier military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran, including strikes and the targeting of senior officials.

In their joint statement, G7 members commended Trump’s role in achieving what they termed a significant breakthrough. They highlighted the agreement slated for formal signing on June 19 as offering a vital chance to ensure Iran does not develop nuclear weapons.

Discussions also centered on the situation in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and supporting nations engaged with Trump, emphasizing recent advances on the battlefield as leverage for potential future talks with Russia. The resulting G7 position appeared to reflect a firmer stance toward Moscow. Trump characterized his exchanges with Zelensky and others as “very good.” Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney observed a noticeable evolution in the US approach, describing it as more realistic regarding conditions on the ground.

Overall, the summit underscored ongoing efforts to address pressing international challenges through coordinated leadership
