Vijay Government Withdraws Tender Within Hours After DMK Alleges ‘Contract Politics’

Chennai : The Vijay led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government in Tamil Nadu has found itself facing its first major controversy after a government tender was cancelled within hours of being issued. The move came after the DMK accused the administration of encouraging ‘contract politics’ and favouring select contractors in the bidding process.

The issue began with a tender floated for the construction of an overhead water tank in Kancheepuram district. The project, valued at around rs16.8 lakh, reportedly gave contractors only a few hours to submit their bids. Opposition leaders questioned how any company could complete paperwork and participate fairly in such a short time, raising suspicions that the contract may have been intended for a pre selected bidder.

The DMK strongly criticised the goverment, calling the process opaque and against fair tendering practices. Party leaders demanded an explanation and alleged that the rushed timeline damaged the credibility of the new administation.

As the controversy gained attention online and in political circles, the government withdrew the tender later the same day, citing administrative reasons. However, the opposition continued to attack the ruling party, saying the cancellation itself showed that there were serious flaw in the process.

The episode has become an early political challenge for Vijay’s government, which came to power promising transperancy and clean governance. With the administration still in its early days, the handling of the tender row is likely to remain under scrunity in the coming weeks.
