Udhampur Encounter : Security Forces Gun Down 2 Suspected Terrorists

Udhampur : Two terrorists were killed in a late-night encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, officials said on Thursday. The slain terrorists are suspected to be linked to the Kashmir Tigers, a proxy group of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). Their identities are being verified, officials said. The gunfight took place in the Majalta area after security forces launched a major cordon and search operation following inputs about the suspicious movement of terrorists in the forested area.

Security forces found the bodies of the terrorists believed to be foreigners and most likely from the JeM. Arms and ammunition were recovered from their possession. The joint operation was led by the Rashtriya Rifles, Para (Special Forces), and the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The latest gunfight in Udhampur came after a Lashkar-e-Taiba commander from Pakistan was gunned down in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on September 5.

The latest gunfight in Udhampur came after a Lashkar-e-Taiba commander from Pakistan was gunned down in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on September 5. However, he split from the group nearly a year ago and had since been operating separately, according to sources. Rajouri Police arrested three people in connection with an alleged terror module operating in the Pir Panjal region. The accused were identified as Zakir Hussain, Mohd Azam, and Mohd Mushtaq.

High alert, vehicle checking, and tight cordons remain in place across strategic routes in the Udhampur-Reasi range. The hilly areas of Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban, Kathua, Poonch and Rajouri districts have been under special focus of the security forces because of the reported movements of hardcore Pakistani terrorists in these inaccessible areas. The bigger advantage of these operations is that the terrorists are kept constantly on the run without being able to get a foothold to plan and carry out attacks against the security forces, the Army, and civilians.
