Mahua Moitra Alleges BJP Workers Threw Eggs, Brinjals at Krishnanagar Party Office, Streams Incident Live

Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra on Wednesday alleged that BJP workers targeted her with eggs and brinjals while she was attending a meeting with party workers at an eatery in Krishnanagar. The Krishnanagar MP livestreamed the incident on Facebook, accusing “BJP goons” of carrying out the attack.

The incident comes amid a series of egg-hurling protests targeting TMC leaders following the party’s defeat in the Assembly elections. It also occurred on the same day that the Calcutta High Court criticised the growing trend of such attacks, describing the practice of throwing eggs at political leaders as “a social evil.”

Mahua Moitra Goes Live During Protest

According to visuals shared online, a group of protesters gathered outside the building, waved black flags and raised “go back” slogans before allegedly throwing eggs and brinjals towards the premises where Moitra was present.

During the Facebook Live broadcast from the upper floor of the building, Moitra alleged that those involved were BJP workers.

“This is the law-and-order situation in the state. None of these people are ordinary citizens; they are BJP goons,” the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha MP said.

The livestream showed Moitra using a curtain to shield herself as eggs and brinjals were thrown towards the window.

She also claimed that police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel reached the spot around 15 minutes after the protest began.

“I have called the DGP and everybody else, but the police are sitting and watching. I want all of India to see this. The CRPF is not being able to disperse the crowd,” she said.

Moitra further alleged that those involved were clearly visible on camera.

“Their faces are clearly visible. Later, the police will say they cannot identify them,” she added.

Addressing party workers during the livestream, the TMC leader said she would not leave the area or seek police protection.

“This is my area. I am the MP from here. I am not going to move. The whole Bengal should see the goonda gardi,” she said.

Later, Moitra posted another video on X, tagging the West Bengal Director General of Police. In the post, she alleged that the police had failed to disperse the crowd despite being present for nearly two hours.

“For the past 2 hours… your police is watching the fun and not dispersing the mob. They want me to flee, and they will pelt eggs/stones while I enter my car,” she wrote.

Earlier this month, on June 13, Moitra had claimed that BJP Mahila Morcha workers gathered outside the Krishnanagar court carrying eggs and tomatoes ahead of her scheduled appearance in connection with a case. She did not appear before the court that day.

High Court Seeks Action Report

Incidents of egg-hurling at TMC leaders have continued for more than two months after the Assembly polls, with protesters targeting several party leaders accused of corruption. The TMC has consistently alleged that the BJP is orchestrating the protests.

The series of incidents began in May when TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee was targeted with eggs while visiting families of party workers affected by post-poll violence. The eggs stained his white shirt, following which he wore a cricket helmet during subsequent public appearances.

Since then, more than a dozen TMC MLAs and leaders have reportedly faced similar protests.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Calcutta High Court directed the West Bengal government to take steps to curb such incidents. Hearing a plea filed by Abhishek Banerjee, the court asked the state government to submit a report detailing the number of arrests made and the action taken against those accused of throwing eggs at political leaders.
