The pilot and co-pilot of a twin-engine, four-seater training aircraft were killed on Thursday after it crashed in a field close to the Ganges River in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. One of the pilots was a student and the other was an instructor, according to the authorities.
The two, Sachin Bhatia from Gujarat and Abhishek Pujari from Karnataka, departed the Garg Aviation training center in Kanpur at 11:30 a.m. They were returning to the training center via plane when the event occurred at approximately 11:50 a.m.
“We have knowledge about the teacher. He had over 3,000 hours of experience. The DGCA has been notified. The police have secured the entire area, and their team will carry out a comprehensive inquiry,” stated Raghubir Lal, Police Commissioner, Kanpur Nagar. Authorities and emergency services raced to the scene. Images from the scene revealed a totally destroyed aircraft in a wooded, grassy region. The wing and other white panels are shattered, and the metal components of the flight are twisted.
The crash’s precise reason is still unknown. It happened when the airliner lost control, according to officials. According to officials, the training aircraft was transported to the facility in 2023. Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, sent his sympathies to the families of the pilots who perished in the collision. In addition, he prayed for the families’ ability to cope with the great loss and for the peace of the departed souls.
According to a statement from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), their team is heading to the location for “regulatory oversight and coordination”.
“The plane was in Kanpur Civil Airport’s Local Flying Area for a training flight. A student pilot and an instructor were the two people on board. In the collision, both suffered mortal injuries. The accident has been reported to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), which will conduct a thorough investigation in compliance with the relevant regulations. The investigation will evaluate the accident’s circumstances and causation,” it stated.
