New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has been appointed chairman of the Committee on Petitions in the Rajya Sabha shortly after joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to reports by The Times of India and news agency PTI.
The appointment came after Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan reconstituted the Committee on Petitions and nominated 10 members to the panel. An official Rajya Sabha notification confirmed that Chadha would head the committee, with the new structure taking effect from May 20, 2026.
The Committee on Petitions plays an important role in examining grievances and petitions submitted by citizens to the Upper House of Parliament. The panel studies public concerns and presents reports and recommendations to the Rajya Sabha on related matters.
Apart from Chadha, the committee includes Harsh Mahajan, Gulam Ali, Shambhu Sharan Patel, Mayankkumar Nayak, Masthan Rao Yadav Beedha, Jebi Mather Hisham, Subhasish Khuntia, Rwngwra Narzary, and Sandosh Kumar P, as stated in the Rajya Sabha notification.
In another notification, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat announced that Menaka Guruswamy had been nominated to the Joint Committee on the Corporate Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026. Separately, Lok Sabha Speaker notifications confirmed the nomination of Arvind Ganpat Sawant to the same committee with effect from May 21, 2026.
The development marks a significant parliamentary responsibility for Chadha soon after his political shift from the Aam Aadmi Party to the BJP, a move that has drawn considerable attention in political circles.
