India Issues Travel Advisory for Congo and Uganda Amid Ebola Concerns

Uganda: India has advised citizens to avoid non essential travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda after fresh Ebola cases raised concerns across parts of Central Africa. The advisory comes as health authorities worldwide closely monitor the outbreak and work to contain further spread of the virus.

Officials have said that while there are no reported Ebola cases in India so far, precautionary measures are being stepped up at airports and other entry points. Travellers arriving from affected regions may face additional health screening, and authorities have urged people to remain alert to symptoms such as fever, fatigue, vomiting and unexplained bleeding.

The recent outbreak has mainly affected eastern Congo, with Uganda also reporting infections linked to cross border movement. Health experts are particularly concerned because the strain involved currently has no widely approved vaccine or specific treatment, making early detection and isolation extremely important.

The World Health Organization has been coordinating with regional governments to strengthen surveillance and emergency response systems. However, challenges such as limited healthcare access and movement across porous borders continue to make containment difficult in some affected areas.

Indian health officials have maintained that the overall risk to the country remains low, but have stressed the importance of caution due to increasing international travel. Citizens have been advised to follow official updates and avoid unnecessary travel to regions experiencing active outbreaks.
