Tehran : Iranian state media on Thursday released what it said was the first footage from inside former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s compound in Tehran, showing the scale of destruction caused by the US-Israeli strike that killed him earlier this year. The 35-second clip shows the aftermath inside the Imam Khomeini Hussainiya, the main hall in the Tehran compound where Khamenei used to hold key meetings and address the public.
Khamenei, 86, was killed on the opening day of the US-Israel war against Iran. Several members of his family, including his 14-month-old granddaughter, were also killed in the strike. His son, Mojtaba Ali Khamenei, who later took over as Iran’s Supreme Leader, was injured. The release of the footage coincided with Khamenei’s burial in his hometown of Mashhad in northeastern Iran, bringing to an end a weeklong funeral procession that passed through Tehran, Qom, and the Shia holy cities of Najaf and Karbala in Iraq.

The footage surfaced as tensions between Iran and the United States flared again, raising fears that the conflict could widen once more. The US military said on Wednesday it had launched fresh strikes on Iranian targets to protect shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, hours after President Donald Trump declared the interim agreement ending hostilities was “over”. The confrontation had escalated further.
