
In a heartbreaking incident late on Tuesday night, a bus ferrying devotees back from a religious visit overturned in Punjab’s Fatehgarh Sahib district, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuries to 21 others.
The accident took place around 10:00 pm near Himmatpura village along the Morinda-Chunni road in the Bassi Pathana area. All passengers aboard were residents of Main Majri village in Fatehgarh Sahib. They had been returning from Anandpur Sahib in Rupnagar district, where they had gone to pay obeisance during the Baisakhi festival.
According to officials and news agency PTI, the bus overturned on the road following a malfunction. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Fatehgarh Sahib Deputy Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar confirmed the casualty figures, stating that six people, including a woman, lost their lives in the mishap. The 21 injured passengers were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, where they are receiving medical treatment.
Police and rescue teams arrived promptly at the scene and carried out relief and rescue operations. The Fatehgarh Sahib Police, via their official Twitter handle, provided an update on the incident that occurred the previous night, noting that further investigation is underway.

This unfortunate event has cast a shadow over the festive spirit of Baisakhi for the affected families from Main Majri village. Authorities continue to probe the circumstances leading to the overturning of the vehicle.
