Kargil Veteran Allegedly Attacked With Iron Rod In Gurugram After Parking Dispute

Gurugram: A family dinner in Gurugram took a disturbing turn after a retired Indian Air Force officer and Kargil War veteran was allegedly attacked with an iron rod by a parking attendant, leaving him with injuries to his head and elbow.

Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired), who served in the Indian Air Force during Operation Safed Sagar in the 1999 Kargil War, has alleged that he was assaulted at Magnum Global Park in Gurugram on September 10. He has approached the police seeking strict action against the person allegedly involved in the attack.

According to Gupta’s complaint, he had gone to Gonzo restaurant at the commercial complex for dinner with his family. At around 8 pm, after dropping his family at the restaurant, he went to park his car.

Gupta alleged that he was directed from one parking area to another by the parking staff. He was reportedly asked to move between the valet area, basement and multilevel parking before being told that his car could not be parked there.

The argument allegedly became heated when Gupta tried to reverse his vehicle. He has claimed that a parking attendant struck the windshield of his car. When Gupta stepped out to question him, the situation allegedly escalated.

Gupta has alleged that the attendant picked up an iron rod and hit him twice. One blow landed on his hand while another struck his head. He said the attack caused significant bleeding and left him seriously injured.

The retired officer also alleged that he was threatened during the confrontation and that other security and parking staff failed to step in. He said he called the police helpline but had to wait for around 30 minutes before receiving assistance. According to his account, a chef from the restaurant eventually intervened.

Gupta was later taken to Medanta Hospital for treatment. He suffered injuries to his head and elbow and underwent surgery for the elbow injury, with plates used to repair the damaged bone.

The veteran has also raised questions about the medico legal report, alleging that some of his injuries were not properly recorded. That claim, like the other allegations, has not been independently established.

Gupta has requested that an FIR be registered and strict legal action be taken against the alleged attacker. He has also sought action over what he described as the delayed police response.

The case has drawn attention because of Gupta’s service during the Kargil War and the seriousness of the injuries he says he suffered. Further police action and the response of the parking staff and property management are awaited.
