Security forces have recovered the body of a Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba commander along with war-like stores after he was killed in an encounter in central Kashmir.
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps confirmed the recovery of the body of Mohammad Asif, also known as Hashim Moosa, following the operation. The incident took place on Tuesday in the higher reaches of Budgam district.
A joint search operation was launched by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force in Srinagar on the basis of specific intelligence inputs. In the Korag area of Yousmarg, troops noticed suspicious movement while conducting the search. When they challenged the suspects, the individuals opened fire. Security forces responded, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
One terrorist was killed in the encounter and was identified as a member of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba. His body was later recovered along with war-like stores.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security forces to counter militant activity in the region.
