Goa Records 11,000+ Self-Enumerations In India’s First Digital Census
Panaji: In the first digital census of the country, over 11,000 persons in Goa have done their self Enumeration using the online platform. On April 15, the self-enumeration period ends in Goa and till April 14, almost 11,117 have already done their self-enumeration in the state.
After the end of digital census, the field enumeration will take place from April 16 in Goa.
Officials have said that 11,000 is a good figure of self-enumeration, assuming that it was the first attempt for a digital census to be carried out besides problems such as digital literacy, internet network coverage might be a matter of concern for users.
Looking at the response, it seems that each household has at least one person per household to carry out the self-enumeration process. It simply means that the population covered is much higher than what was expected.

In the very first of a kind, self-enumeration and digital census, a provision was made to allow citizens to use Konkani as well in order to submit their responses.
Director of Census Operations, Cheshta Yadav said that reliance of this digital self-enumeration will be little as it is the first time that a digital census practice has been carried out. However, Goa gave a satisfactory response for the first time. From Thursday, i.e 16 April onwards almost 3,000 supervisors and enumerators will be on field to carry out physical census by going door-to-door in each household. This will continue till May 15.
If households who have done their self-enumeration partially or who have not done at all, their self-enumeration will be done by the enumerators. For people who have already done the self-enumeration, they will have to provide the number generated to the enumerator so that the data could be verified by the field enumerators.
The first phase of the Census includes house listing and housing data. Data such as housing condition, structural details of the house , household consumption, ownership status of house, availability of the basic amenities etc.
