
Goa celebrates its 39th year of being an independent state today 30 May 2026, and honouring this, the Governor of Goa, C. P. Radhakrishnan, will participate to commemorate the milestone. Goa broke its shackles from Portuguese colonization in 1961 and was recognized as a Union Territory along with Diu and Daman, before being accorded statehood in 1987. It was through the efforts of the people of Goa, who participated in major political events, that Goa earned its statehood. This occasion will acknowledge the state’s journey of nearly four decades and how it has progressed in various sectors.

Konkani being the official language of the state, its culture and history also have a great significance. Today’s event will introduce an honorary stamp of Goan cartoonist Mario Miranda, furthermore adding the launch of a coffee table book, the presentation of awards, and the declaration of citizen welfare activities. As a part of the celebration, the Governor will visit the CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), Goa where he will walk through the institution, interact with the members of it, and finally, release a coffee table book of the CSIR-NIO.
This Statehood Celebration will boost the 25th State of the Indian Union, Goa’s, reputation as a state and will make one realize its series of developments over the years. As one of the leading states of the nation, this small island holds deep cultural practices, unique sightings, and surmountable excursions, which make this state stand out from the others.
