A delivery agent has been arrested in Bengaluru after a woman accused him of forcibly entering her apartment and making obscene gestures inside her home, triggering fresh concerns over the safety of customers during doorstep deliveries.
According to police, the incident took place when the delivery executive arrived at the woman’s residence to deliver a parcel. After completing the delivery, he allegedly requested permission to use the washroom. The woman refused and instead suggested that he seek assistance elsewhere. However, she claimed the man ignored her repeated refusals and entered the apartment without her consent.
The woman alleged that once inside the flat, the delivery agent exposed himself and made obscene gestures before leaving the premises. Deeply shaken by the incident, she later shared her ordeal on social media, saying she no longer felt safe in her own home and describing the experience as traumatic.
Following her complaint, the Marathahalli Police registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused, identified as Vijay Mallikarjun Kamath, was subsequently arrested. Police have booked him under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections related to sexual harassment, insulting the modesty of a woman and house trespass. Further investigation into the case is underway.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage online, with many users demanding stricter background verification of delivery personnel and stronger safety measures for customers, particularly women living alone. Several social media users also called on e-commerce companies to strengthen their grievance redressal systems and ensure swift action in cases involving customer safety.
The case has once again highlighted concerns over personal safety during home deliveries and renewed calls for companies to adopt more robust protocols to protect customers. Authorities have assured that the investigation will continue and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected.
